The top 12 singers on American Idol season 21 has officially been determined. After impressing in various weeks of the competition, 28 year old Lucy Love was one of the artists saved by the judges. With another chance to vote around the corner, here’s everything to know about the singer.
Her Journey on Idol Thus Far
Lucy first appeared on American Idol when she auditioned for Season 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada. After singing “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie asked her to sing another tune, since her audition was “too comedic.”
Between the two songs, Lucy explained that she’s “from a long line of people who never had the opportunity to make something of themselves.” In this portion of the show, she got candid about her broken family, clarifying that music was her safe haven growing up. Since music is her happy place, she hopes to share it with the world and her two children.
“I could be fat, I could be ugly, but the one thing you cannot say is that I cannot sing,” she said. “Being a mother of 2, I definitely have to change the generational cycle.”
After channeling her purpose, Lucy continued her audition with “A Song For You” by Donny Hathaway, all three judges said “yes.”

During Hollywood week, she chose to work on her stage presence. She performed “Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan, then dueted “My Girl” by The Temptations with Elijah McCormick. Later, Lucy performed “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” by Tina Turner and an original entitled “Boulders.”
Although the singer didn’t get enough votes to make it into the Top 10, judges decided to pick her as one of the two saved artists.
Who Is Lucy Love?
It seems as if Lucy has truly risen to stardom through her journey on this season of American Idol. Ahead of the series, the Holly Grove, AR native posted videos of herself singing on social media, on both Instagram and TikTok.
Outside of being a singer, Lucy prides herself in being an artist, entertainer, actress, writer, and mother. Her Instagram bio catch phrase of “started from the bottom, now I’m here,” seems to be incredibly fitting, since she was relatively unknown ahead of the show.
As of writing, fans can check out Lucy’s independent music on Bandcamp. Right now, she has a seven track album, and three singles uploaded to the platform. Her debut album, Love’s Story was uploaded in November 2021.
